CDROM Disc Drive

I have a Vista Home Premium Inspiron 530 from Dell. My disc drive was working
normally until last week. Now the icon has disappeared off the Computer page,
I don't get a window come up on the monitor when I insert a CD, and I have
been able to find nothing on my hard drive to correct this. Whenever I go
into anything connected with the disc drive it tells me that it doesn't
recognise it and so I can't download a driver.
Any help would be much appreciated. I have had so many problems with Vista
since I got it, and long for my old Windows XP, which never gave me these
problems

I went to the site you recommended and couldn't locate the sub-drive in
regedit. Also, when I typed in devcon stack gencdrom as suggested further
down, it wouldn't accenpt devcon.

As a follow up to my last message, I went back to the site and tried getting
into it a different way and was successful. I now have by CDROM disc drive
back working. Very many thanks for your help.
