CDBurnerXP Pro

I've used this program for burning a few relatively large files to DVD and I
liked it very much. I tried something different recently, burning a large
number of small files to DVD, about 33,000 in 35 folders.

Well, CDBurnerXP goes for a crap. The hard drive twinkled away for 10
minutes without anything happening in the program. OK, enough of this, kill
the program. I terminate it by clicking "X". Do I want to save the layout?
No. Program disappears and re-starts, and re-starts, and re-starts, like
trying to kill a zombie. I have to go to Taskmanager to kill it for good.

I've got the latest version, 3.0.116.

For comparison I tried Nero on the same task. It digested the 33,000 files
in 30 seconds or less and was ready to burn.

Has anyone else noticed that CDBurnerXP Pro acts this way? I have XP Pro
up-to-date. I don't know, I think I might re-install CD Extreme.

The same thing happened to me about a year ago. Took me a while to get
rid of the problem. To uninstall or repair the problem you have to use
CDBurnerXP setup program. Just uninstalling with another uninstall
program does not get rid of the problem. Switched to DeepBurner, and have
had good luck in similar burnings.

33,000 files?

I'm sitting here scratching my head, trying to imagine where that many files
could come from. :)

Have you notified the author? I am certain he can easily fix the problem, IF
he can scratch up 33,000 files to test with.

Please do let the developers know. They're pretty responsive.

Thanks for the replies. I will notify the authors because I'd like to see
the program work and prosper.

Just for comparison I installed burnatonce and Deepburner. Now I didn't
actually burn anything, I just wanted to see how they would process that
number of files and folders. Burnatonce was very speedy, probably on a par
with Nero. Deepburner was slower processing than burnatonce, but it gives a
visual indication of where it's at, so you know it's actually going
somewhere.

I looked at Burn4Free, but when I saw toolbar stuff included I declined.
