First sorry about this repeat post... I was away and cannot find my original.
I am using windows xp pro.
I can only write to a CD-R once using the windows writing program.
If I try to add more info to the disc later I get the error.... "windows not
not support this cd-r format. Please try another disc" .....If I stick a new
disc in it will write again, but just the one time.....
My wife has the same version of windows on her laptop and can write to a
cd-r until it is "full" as one would expect..... any ideas what is going on
here?
much thanks

what you are looking for is to 'multisession' the disc, personally i have
not known the option to be readily available with windows built in burning
application and unsure how the recommendation of Nero would go down on this
site...

This is a newsgroup not a web site (even though there is a web interface for
the newsgroup).

Those of us who access the newsgroup without resort to the web site
recommend whatever we please.

The OP's problem is that he is using XP's native interface which evidently
does not close the disk such that it can be written until full.

I use EasyCD Creator, and I can most assuredly add files until the CD is
full.

Thanks both... I haven't installed any other burning software as I have
always been able to back up data to CD-R using windows in the past, and as I
mentioned, my Mrs is able to do it without any problems............so I guess
there is some mysterious setting somewhere I need to alter, so that the disc
isn't "closed" for further writing.
I am pretty sure i have been successful in the past with this same
computer...which makes it even more frustrating! The only thing I haven't
tried is a different brand of CD, although I can't imagine that is going to
make any difference.
Cheers

Using Easy CD Creator one of the burning options is "Set as Default".
You may have inadvertently set this while creating a finalized disk.

thanks, but I haven't used EZ CD, (don't have it).....so not sure how that
might happen.

Well..... I seem to have fixed it. Found some patch on the MS site and it
appears to be working.... not sure what it fixed but I have successfully
written to some discs that have previous data on them.......... so
thanks,,,,,, we'll see if it continues to work!
