CD Writing wizard

Despite having written images and files to my CDRW previously without
problems, I am now getting an error message stating that the CD writing
wizard cannot be completed and 'there was an error in the writing process'.
My usual method is to simply drag or right click the required image into the
CDRW window which will show the files ready to be written and completing the
process is then quite straight forward.
I have not changed any settings etc and would therefore appreciate anyones
help as to why I am now getting this message when trying to copy.
To date I have tried 3-4 system restores and even re-installing XP has not
eliminated the problem, I have also checked and deleted any files in the temp
folder.
Although I am aware of such programs as Nero etc to copy disks I would much
prefer to fix the problem as I find the above method very convenient (when
working).

Is the CD-RW full? You'll have to copy the files to HDD first, then erase
it (CD-RW) and rewrite the files to it.

One thing you might check first. Go to Services.msc and see if the Imapi CD burning is set to disabled. If it is set it to Manual\Start

I don't know what's causing your problem, but as a general
troubleshooting step I'd recommend trying alternative burning software.

I've found the built-in (Roxio) buring software to be very unreliable,
particularly when burning a large amount of data.

Nero is often recommended and for good reason -- it's super solid and
can do all kinds of stuff the built-in software cannot.

Isn't that annoying? I've had that too, and with no indication of
the NATURE of the error that might help to resolve it. Finally I
gave up and started using a third-party program exclusively. (NTI
CD/DVD-maker Gold came preinstalled on my computer.)

Apparently sometimes XP gets confused about the status of a partly
used disc and fails to write to it, even though a third-party
program has no difficulty. One thing you might try, since you're
using CR-RWs, is first erasing the CD-RW so that Windows knows it's
writing to an empty disc. Also, in Device Manager (Win+Break, select
Device Manager tab), you might try specifying a lower write sped for
that drive.

can do all kinds of stuff the built-in software cannot.

Ask 10 people which burning software they recommend, and you are bound to get different
suggestions. One thing that is certain, many would agree not to use the native Windows XP
burning. Personally I like the latest versions of Nero. For newbies there are the Nero
Smart Start and Nero Express modules, which are very user friendly for those not
technically inclined, and who want to be up and burning in a few minutes via point and
click. Then there's the Nero Burning ROM module interface for power users. I have never
had any problems burning CDRs with Nero 6.* Ultra Edition. As for the Nero InCD module
for CD-RWs, it is about as dependable as most other CD-RW burning. In other words, if the
data is really important, I would opt to burn it to a CDR disk, not a CD-RW disk.

I have this same problem with the error message from the writing wizard that
it cannot complete the cd. I also got the Nero cd burner most of you
recommend yet that didn't work either... got another error message... I'm
unfortunately not all that technical like most of you people here... does
anyone have another anwer for me...?? Thanking you in advance.
