CD Writing Wizard message - There is no disc in drive

Two questions for Microsoft:
1) Had a problem where CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a
recordable device. The fix for this is by applying reg hack as in KB316529.
This issue can occur when the drive is misdetected as a non-recordable
device. Question - is there any utilities from microsoft to apply during
sysprep mini setup to prevent this issue occuring? Also, is there a HKLM fix
(instead of HKCU as in KB316529) for this issue?
2) After applying KB316529 another problem occured where the "CD Writing
Wizard" will come up with the following message - There is no disc in drive -
Please insert a writeable CD into drive. Now, although the workaround is
mentioned in KB324129, is there a permanent fix that can prevent this from
happening?

Thanks.

Had the exact same thing happen to me. Would like to know the same answers. Thing is, even Roxio won't recognize these two drives in my friend's computer as recordable. Had to do those fixes, and then after restoring the recording tab to the Properties window of these drives and marking them recordable, could write to a CD using one drive (using XP's built-in writer), but couldn't to the other (got the "There is no disc in drive" error). Think the drive might be going bad, but it can still read just fine.... :(
