cd writing wizard - help please

Alex

Hello,

The cd writing wizard will not let me write files onto a
blank cd-r 700mb. I tried several times to insert a
different and new disk in and it shows the disk as having
702MB of free space. I've defragmented my hard disk, I
did the disk cleanup, I troubleshooted and it said it's
working fine. My Windows XP has the latest updates as
well.

Result the Wizard says: "Cannot Complete the CD Writing
Wizard ! There was an error in the process. The disc you
have attempted to write may no longer be usable."

Any advice? It's worked in the past. Now, I really don't
know what to do. I even went to the FAQ you've posted but
I didn't find any answers.

I appreciate any help.

Thank you,

Alex

The built in cd birner in xp is limited at best. Try a real progam like Nero
or Ezcd Creator.
Also keep the record speed down, don't max it out.

Thanks... I'll try it but are these programs free?

Is there no way to fix this Wizard?

The programs are not free, although there are many free ones out there. Just
remember many times you get what you pay for.
Try updating your cd burner drivers.

Try this page

http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBK/tip5400/rh5469.htm

See the section which says.. Quote:

Error: Can not complete the CD writing wizard.

This error message may occur if the IMAPI CD Burner service is turned off.
To resolve this issue, make sure that the service is running and that it has
not been turned off. By default, the service is set to Manual . Start the
IMAPI CD Burner service, and then test it by writing to a CD-R or a CD-RW.
If the service works, you may have to set the service to Automatic if it
does not start in Manual mode. To set the service to Automatic , follow
these steps:

Click Start , and then click Control Panel .

Click Switch to Classic View in the left pane (if you are not already in
Classic View).

Double-click Administrative Tools , and then click Services .

Double-click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service .

Under Service Status , click Start .

Try to write data to a CD.

You may have to change the Service Status setting from Manual to Automatic
if you cannot write to a disc after you restart the computer.
