CD writer won't write on newly installed Win 2003 Server (HP Pavillion)

Hi.

I recently installed Windows Server 2003 onto an old HP Pavillion 6746C
machine that came with Win ME on it. ( what a nasty OS! ) The box has an
Adaptec CD-RW drive. The original setup came with Easy CD Creator and a
CD-to-CD copying program, as well.

When I put a fresh CD-R into the drive, it doesn't register it as anything I
can write to. Just says it has 0 free bytes and 0 bytes total size. On my
Sony Vaio, which I installed WinXP Pro onto, it will write to the very same
CD-R, so the CD-R itself is not the issue.

Any ideas on how I can:
a) get the drive to recognize and write to a CD-R ?
--- OR ---
b) install the old EasyCD Creator onto Win 2003 Server from the old
HP Pavilion CDs ?

Thanks for any help!

I would recommend re-installing the Easy CD software.
Then going to the website and downloading the most current
update version.

Hope that helps...

Well ... that didn't work at all. Screwed things up so much that I had to
reinstall Windows 2003 Server! I think it was some kind of incompatibility
with the Win2000 driver vs. the Win2003 driver.

I tried it though! ;-)

Thanks.
