Saving Files on CD-R for Windows XP

I bought a new Sony Vaio Desktop with Windows XP, which replaced my older HP
Pavillion running Windows 98. I backed up all my files on the old computer
on a CD-R, but none of the files now show up when I insert the CD into my new
computer. The old one was backed up on Drive M done through Adaptec Easy CD
Creator. The new computer shows drive F for the CD. Is there a way of
getting all my files to transfer to the new computer?

The files were saved in Word through Windows 98. I had Microsoft Office
2000.
