CD Writer problems

To all:

I can't play or record any CDs on my CD burner. When I
start windows, the following error message
appears: "Devices or applications disabled

CD Recording software will cause Windows to become
unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from
loading. Click here for more details.
When you view the details, the following information is
displayed:
A CD Recording driver is installed that may cause
stability problems including shutting down and problems
using a CD/DVD drive.
The driver will be disabled.

The drivers may be installed by Easy CD Creator or
Windows Media Player or Real Jukebox.
You might not be able to record CDs until you obtain
compatible drivers.

Moreover, there is an article in the Microsoft Knowledge
Base (#315345) at the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;315345

However, in step 7 of their solution, I didn't have the
CDr4_2K.sys or CDralw2k.sys files. I followed the rest
of the solution, but it didn't work! Has anybody else
had this problem? Does anyone have an idea what the
problem could be? Thanks!!

Hi,

Do you have Roxio CD Creator 5.0 on your computer? If you
do, then that's the problem. You need to go to the Roxio
website and download the drivers that will upgrade your
Roxio 5.0 to 5.03. There should also be a download for
your Direct CD 5.0 to 5.03 as well. Once you have upgraded
the drivers, it should work okay. You may have to perform
a "repair windows XP" with your installation CD to get it
to work. Good luck.
