CD Writer doesn't work

My Sony CD writer (160..) doesn't work. My PC comes up fine. But when
I try to insert a CD in the writer it won't recognize it and most of
the time the CD light would just be on. I have tried several jumper
settings,cd drivers etc. No Luck. At this time I am thinking of buying
a new cd writer but i just want to make sure that there is nothing
wrong with my computer.

Try another connector on the power supply and also another cable. If
the problem persists, you are sure you have the CD drive connected
properly, and the other drives (i.e. hard drives) work properly the
problem almost certainly is the CD drive, not the computer.
