CD-WR not working!!

J

Jake

Its Win-XP-Pro SP2

problem: when i right click on the DVD/CD-RW drive (D:\) to see the
properties, I cant see the tab that enable recording!! and thus i cant open
the D: drive like a folder and drag and drop data in it!

I used to have this tab there but after formatting my laptop (toshiba) and
restoring the factory situation (like when i bought it) using the provided
DVD, the tab disappeared :-(

what shall i do to restore it and be able again to write on cd's :)

many thanks

When you say, "... cant open the D: drive like a folder and drag and drop
data in it! ..." <- did you used to do that without *any* further action and
it would write to the CD-RW disk *or* did you have a firther action to take?

Was another DVD writing tool included with the "factory" restore from Toshiba?

How did you do this factory restore? System recovery "system" provided by
Toshiba or re-installed XP from a XP install Cd (not provided by Toshiba?

My D: drive never writes dvd's , it only reads them and write cd's!!

Well the restore-DVD is provided by toshiba!!

it contains a win-xp-pro SP2 version specially for my machine! plus a bunch
of programs and drivers for the laptop itself (such as the toshiba wireless,
toshiba touch pad, toshiba .... etc) and a extra program called "Sonic" for
writing cd's as well.

the program "sonic" also provide the so called "DLA" or "Drive Letter
Access" which is an alternative tab to what Win-XP have for the D: drive to
write Cd's..

the Point is i never used DLA before and dont need it as WIN-XP already
provide a built-in feature to write cd's..

The problem is that the built-in win-xp feature seems to have disappeared
?!?!? :-(

i want it back :-(

Same question still unanswered...

When you say, "... cant open the D: drive like a folder and drag and drop

it would write to the CD-RW disk *or* did you have a further action to take?

Is it possible that the OP was using Sonic's drag to disk but didn't realize
that?
And, if he installed Sonic software, perhaps it disabled XP's native
capability.

what i sued to do is this:

there used to be a tab called recording settings (or something similar!).
There was a tick box to make the laptop consider the driver as a writing
device.

If that box is not ticked, when i double-click on the d: drive it sends a
message saying there is no CD in the driver.
If that box is ticked, then when i double click on the d: drive it opens
like any folder!! and then i can drag-n-drop data in it waiting me to hit the
command (record) some times in the future!

that tab doesnt exist now!!! when it did, i used to have that tick box
ticked!! thats how it worked before :-(

hope i answered the question :)

for CD-rw. any way,, the tab is still missing ..

By the way when i first started editing the registry the number for driver
type was 1 !!!!

I'd check with the mfg's tech support group or website. It may be an issue that
they're aware of and hopefully, have a fix for.
