CD-RW

Still looking for a fix for using a CD-RW. I have uninstalled drive;
uninstalled and reinstalled Roxio; and looked for updates for devices. A
CD-R works fine both read and record. For some reason I cannot use the CD-RW
discs. During prepare disc, says will take 25 to 45 minutes to prepare and
half way through says found errors in disc. I tried letting it run and
finally turned off after over an hour. I am at a loss as to what to do next.
My disc is suppose to be rewritable. I have Compaq HP laptop with Windows
XP SP2. Anyone out there can help or direct me ina another direction? Thanks
in advance!!!

See "How to Troubleshoot Issues That Occur When You Write Data to a
CD-R or CD-RW Optical Disc in Windows XP"

Thanks for your response! The recording tab does appear in properties in My
Computer, so I don't feel comfortable messing with the registry key if I
don't have to as I am not very experienced with such an action with my
computer. I ran a cleaner last eve and it helped; was able to prepare and
record on the CD-RW. After erasing a disc, does it have to be prepared again
when recorded? Is that formatting as well? And can you mix regular data
files and audio (music) and pictures? Not too familiar with any of this. If
someone could help me with answers I would sure appreciate the info!

Thanks much! Info very helpful and believe I have things working fairly
well. Have come to the conclusion the CD-R is alot more simple than the
CD-RW! The links are great! Again appreciate the help!
