CD RW wont work

I have a dell 4500 desktop/win XP. My CD RW will go thru
all the motions of writng to a blank CD-R but when it is
complete the target CD-R is blank as if I had done
nothing.
The CD-RW has worked numerous times in the past, but I
dont write near as many CD's as I used to.
I have tried using the device manager to update/uninstall
but I cannot complete the hardware or driver wizards
because winXP says it cannot complete.

Any help would be appreciated.

are you sure your burning software is not set to do a test only?

also have you tried ejecting the CD then reinserting into drive,
sometimes my cd's appear blank until i eject them

Since you have a Dell, have you tried the Dell Community
forum newsgroups? I like the Microsoft Newsgroups but the
Dell forums may be especially beneficial for Dell
owners.
