CD-RW DVD-ROM Drive in my Sony laptop does not work.

I have Windows XP, Home edition installed my laptop.
I have Sony PCG-R505EL laptop. My CD drive does not work. When I install a
picture CD, DVD or System CD, and I go to "explore" drive F: It gives me
message "Install a CD in the drive." Some how it does not see the CD.
However I have picture CD from COSTCO and that works fine.
I checked Hardware and software, the system says it is working fine.
I went to trouble shoot the drive but no luck with the result.
I want to reinstall my WORD program as it does not wrok well. WORD CD is NOT
recognized by the computer.
 
start calling ssome tech support, either from sony or someone else who's
product could be malfuntioning
