My CD r/w doesn't show in 'my computer" or in the device mgr. All the rest of the stuff seems to be fine (no !'s) but there is no cd drive listed. Checked for all the drivers and dll's on a similar computer and mine are there. Anyone have any suggestions as to a solutiion?

Turn off your computer and open the case. Make sure the
CDROM drive has been connected to your power supply.
Also ensure that the EIDE cable is correctly installed
and any jumper settings on the drive are correctly set.

This can happen if you had old CD Software (eg Easy CD Creator) before
an upgrade to XP, or if something has put in a file thinking it was
needed as a driver and left an 'orphaned' reference in the registry.
When boot cannot satisfy the reference it leaves the device out
altogether for safety. To tidy up, get a registry patch file,
cdgone.reg, from www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click
on it and merge it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.
