cd-rw doesn't read

I just purchased a new computer with windows xp. I
backed up all my files onto cd from old computer with
windows 98. Now the new computer can not read any of
these files. It shows the cd is full (no free space) but
yet can not even recognize that there is data on it to
restore. Is there a download to help xp read the data
from other cd-rw driver created cd's?

If you used the Windows98 backup, you created qic files. These are NOT
compatible with XP's NT Backup which uses bkf files and cannot read qic
files.

You need to find a 98/98se or ME PC and restore the files to a new location,
then copy the actual files (not one giant backup) to a new CD. Then take
that CD from the old PC to the new PC and copy them over.

If you dragged and dropped the files directly to the CD, then you had packet
writing software such as the Direct CD Component of Easy CD Creator,
www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com installed on your
previous computer.

While there are some exceptions, quite often XP cannot read such disks
unless you install the proper software. If the above describes your
