CD-RW Data Converted to Read Only on XP!!!

Ever since I installed (full install) Win XP on my
computer, all data on my previous CD-RW come up as "Read
Only". I can't write any data on the CDs anymore. Most
of them were saved using UDF format, but it seems like it
doesn't matter. I have tried to remove the Read Only
constraint using the XP "File, Property, ..." menus to no
avail. XP actually accepts the commands when I type them
in but as soon as I close the Properties menu box, the
files return to Read Only status. Please help, I'm out
of ideas. Thanks.

Hi,

You need to install burning software that supports the UDF format, the
native burning software does not. The most it will do is read existing files
on a CDR created in that manner, and even then it is limited and does not
work on all..

Windows XP's native CDR/CD-RW capabilities are limited. Third party
software is preferable. If you liked the program that you originally wrote
the CD-RWs with, and it has a Windows XP version, get it, and you'll
probably be able to write to the previously used CD-RW disk. BTW, if you
upgraded to Windows XP, with your previous Windows 98 CDR/CD-RW software
still installed, you might have to go to the maker's site for a removal tool
or program.

Check to see if you have Windows XP critical Update
#KB823182 installed. If it is, uninstall it and reboot
and see if this doesn't fix the problem. In the future,
I would avoid allowing Windows XP auto-update feature to
installing this update.

Hope this helps.

Nothing to do with it - XP's CD RW function doesn't include packet writing.
