CD roms not recognized....

i had a cd burner installed in my computer (samsung sw-
240b). it worked fine until the computer ceased to
recognize it. in the decvice manager under properties
windows says that the driver is successfully loaded but
device can't be found. the cd rom tray can be ejected
and cd's can be loaded. i bought a new cd burner to
replace it(LG GCE-8523B) , and after installing it under
device properties windows it says that can't start the
hardward device becuase config information in the
registry is incomplete or damaged.
what can i do? is my first drive broken? and how can i
get the new one to work under WindowsXP?

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website
