cd-rom will not open

i just bought a new sony viao laptop. The cd rom will not open up. There is
no sign of activity(no light) when i press the button to release it open.
Please help!

Open Explorer or My Computer, right click on the CD and choose "Eject".
There should also be a small hole where you can manually open the drive
tray. Check the manual.

If the CD drive has failed, that's what warranties are for.

If Patricks' solution doesn't work, then you may try getting into your
machine, to see if the plug to cd-rom drive has worked itself loose.
