CD-Rom not working

Just got a new computer, Acer with windows vista.. however when I put a cd in
or a dvd in to play nothing happens.. I've checked to see that it is set up
to automatically play or download or such (in the control panel).. this does
not seem to work. Anything I have forgotten to do, or need to redo? This
computer is brand new, not even a week old! Anyone out there who can help
out, this would be great.. Like I said, it won't download, play or even show
that I've got a cd-rom drive.. Why is this?

step 1 click on the windows icon in bottom left if dont work double
click.

step 2 click on computer

step 3 click on DVD RW drive.

step 4 click on dvd icon look for index.HTML

an new window should open and click top corner right near the x to
max the screen to full screen

Return it to the retailer where you purchased it from immediately.It is a week old system and they should resolve this issue.
