cd rom not working in windows xp

Cd rom not working when windows is loaded (please insert cd or retry is
message with any disc) up but will boot from cd to do installation of
operating system, can any one help with this?

See post from Paula and response from Bob Knowlden. I follow the
instructions from Dougnox site and it worked for me.
