CD-ROM not recognized

After installing Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000 my CD-ROM
does not recognize audio CDs. I had no problems when
running under Service Pack 3. I also installed the latest
drivers for my Soundblaster card, which after installing
the latest SP is no longer playing sound. Again prior to
installing SP4 I had no problem with the sound card. No
other changes have been made to the system.

Any ideas?

Ok. I have found the problem with the sound.

I have now noticed that the CD-ROM drive does not
recognize ANY type of CD whether it is audio or data.

Has anyone else out there run into this problem? It is a
Teac CD-540E, which is Win2K compatable.

I am running a P3 800, 512 MB of RAM, Pagefile size is
1200 MB (Initial and Max size), SP4.

I have a store bought CD that included an MPEG as well as
the standard CD audio. It was when I tried to play this CD
the second time that I started having problems.

I may experience the same problem : since SP4
installation, the 2 CD-ROM drives (one being a writer) do
not recognize ANY type of CD whether it is audio or data,
but only IF I insert the CD after completing the boot
sequence (i.e. if there was no CD in drive during w2k
boot).

If there is a CD in the drive prior and during boot, the
CD can then be read and swapping CD works just fine...

Strange ain't it ?
