CD-ROM IS NOT ACCESSIBLE - INCORRECT FUNCTION

When i try to play a music cd the cd works fine when set to auto-play, the cd
starts playing.
when i try to install software by cd or play music cd by clicking on the
drive letter or using the run command, i get the following message
F:\ is not accessible
incorrect function

note: my cd-rom drive is letter F

can anyone offer a solution

Thanks, but i don't have that (Norton Autoprotect) on my computer either. I
had this happen once before about a year ago when i installed Norton
Anti-virus 2004 and it made all my drives do this (floppy, cd-rom and cd-rw )
except my hard drives inaccessible until i until i uninstalled that NAV 2004,
once i did that, everything worked fine again.
