Recently moved HD to new computer system and did repair install of Win XP
home, since that time the computer attempts to install the cd rom at ever
reboot (though cd drive is working already). It would be greatly appreciated
if someone could tell me what steps I can take to correct this rather
annoying quirk.

What happens when you let the CD-ROM re-install??? Each Windows XP needs
to correctly identify the CD-ROM in the device list. If the CD-ROM is
different than to unit where the hard drive was first installed, let this
complete.

Are you talking about boot order?
Check yuor BIOS. Set first boot device to HDD. or
Windows is installing device at each startup?

I have attempted to let it finish installing, and get message that no drivers
were found, left the check in box for not to try installing again with no
result. CD drive is the same one that was in the origional computer with hard
drive and came with no special installation software when purchased, and
shows in the device manager as operating normally. Drive is Sony CD ROM

check in Device Manager. Are any devices listed under Unknown device or any
have Yellow or red mark next to them? See what they are. Remove these, if
present.

The CD ROM does work properly as xx drive?

Also could try uninstall from device manger and reboot.

Could also, disconnect power and ribbon cables. reboot the computer and
shutdown
Then reconnect.

Jumpers are set correctly for masrter or slave?
