I'm running Windows XP - Home version. I have an NEC NR-7900A CD-RW
drive. I want to change the setting so that when I insert a cd with
autorun, it will not start up and execute an application.

I've looked through the WINXP help and searched the web for the info
but I can't find anything specific. I did find how to disable the
drive, but that is not what I want.

Please respond here or directly at my email below.

thanks,
Bob

To open Group Policy (Auto Play Disable option)

Click Start, and then click Run.
Type gpedit.msc and then click OK.

go to
Administrative Templates
then System
towards the middle of the right side of the screen
you will see, Turn Off Autoplay.

Thanks for the responses. I found that gpedit.msc didn't exist on my
machine, so I went to the (http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm.
pulled down the script, read the contents and used that to manually
change the registry value.

I did that partly to learn and not load a script willy/nilly to my
machine.

It did work. Thanks again for your responses.
