cd rom gone after xp reinstall

I had to reinstall xp professional. I had a lot of trouble reloading it.
Finally loaded but now I have no cd rom. The light goes on but is not listed
under "my computer" or under hardware devices. Please help

I tried that. It did nothing all it said was done and reboot. When I
rebooted I still had no cd drive. I am really at a loss....

Is the optical drive seen in the BIOS, if so, is it set to auto detect..?

Were you upgrading an older PC with the retail ver of XP w/SP2..?

How old is the computer (make & model) and the CD-ROM, ..?

If the CD is not listed in the BIOS check for a loose power or IDE cable. If the BIOS doesn't see
it there is no way Windows will.
