CD ROM Drives

I have widows XP on a Dell 8200 machine. It has two cd drives; a Samsung
DVD-ROM and a SONY CD_RW. I can't get any software e.g. windows explorer, to
see them. When I use Device Manager they are listed and are considered to be
working properly. The only way I can get it to work is to reboot the machine
with the disk in the drive. Then I can get a list of what's on the CD when
using windows explorer. I've used the trick of using regedit to remove an
upper filter but that doesn't help.

Hello Danny:

You haven't explained why this is spyware related as that is the group
you've posted to.

You probably wish to repost this in:

"microsoft.public.windowsxp.general"

Just before you do that, you may wish to analyze what happened just
before you experienced the trouble. It would also be quite helpful to
specify all of the following along with your post:

The long version of your exact XP system. Home, Professional, MCE?

What service pack level the system is at. Is your system up to date
with all patches and updates.

A detailed accounting of all the antimalware applications you have
installed.

A bit off topic for this newsgroup, but since you are here:

How about the lower filter, was there one present?

For Windows XP, see:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/

Note: if you use the Fix It button at this site be sure to reboot your
machine after running it.

For Windows Vista, see:

Good luck,
