CD Rom Drives not refreshing

Good Day,

I have a Inspiron 8200 system running Windows XP Home with SP2. I have two
CD Rom drives on this system, primary and secondary. One is a burner the
other is a basic CD Reader. I found that when I insert a CD and then pop
out the CD the label in My computer does not clear. I can put another CD in
and I can open it up with no issues but the label is the same as the
original CD that I put in. If I eject the cd (from right clicking) and then
put another CD in it will clear with time. I have done the following

I have tested the hardware and it came out clean with no issues (Dell Diag
software)
I have checked for new firmware with no luck on Dell site
I have updated the Bios to the latest version
I have installed a clean copy of XP SP2 and found the same issue. No other
software or drivers was installed at this time All XP. Then installed all
updates with same issue

Also if I run this in safe mode the problem seems to go away.

Is there a fix out there that anybody knows about or can somebody make some
suggestions that I can try.

Thanks

Check this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Look for the value Autorun and make sure it is set to 1.

Hello Adam,

From your post, my understanding of your issue is: You box will not update
CD volume label. If it is not correct, please feel free to let me know.

First I want to say I totally agree with Roberto's opinion, we'd better
first check if the value of
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\AutoRunthe registry key is set
to 1.

As I know, this issue may occur if you change the value of the above
registry key to 0 and this makes AutoPlay feature be turned off. For your
information, if you want to disable AutoPlay feature, I recommend you do
this via group policy. I would like to provide the detailed steps below.

1. Click "Start->Run" type "gpedit.msc" and click "OK"
2. Locate to "Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Turn
off Autoplay"
3. Enable it.

I hope this suggestion helps and if you have any further concerns or
questions, please don't hesitate to tell us.

Regards,

Ada Pan
