CD-ROM Drives not functioning?

D

Daniel

I went to install software yesterday on my computer
(Windows 2000 Professional) and it wouldn't read the CD.
I then tried other CD's. None of them were accepted
either, even a CD I had just got done using an hour
earlier. All the ATAPI CD-ROM drive does is scan and
scan. When I put in a CD and open My Computer, the
Computer hangs and I have to end the My Computer task, and
usually reboot.

I then tried my external SCSI TEAC CD-Burner drive, with
the same result. I went to the Microsoft site and
downloaded every single update as of this moment and
installed them all, and still the problem persists...

Is there any help out there for me? I really need use of
the CD-ROM drives! Thank you,

Daniel

I was wondering if you found a fix for this problem yet.
I tried installing a new CD ROM, and neither one of them
will read a data or audio CD. My system doesn't lock up.
In fact, it thinks both devices are functioning properly.
However, they never acknowledge when they have a CD.

I uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for both, but it
made no difference. I have another device that is
called "Multimedia Controller" that has not been installed
correctly. I don't know what this is or what drivers it
is looking for, but I'm betting that it is the reason my
CD ROMs won't read.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
