CD rom drives disappeared

I have a windows 2000 system with a DVD reader and CD-R
which have funtioned fine. I replaced the CD-R with a
DVD/CD-rw. Original CD-R was set to slave and also the new
DVD. The drives showed up in my computer initially then
disappeared after reboot. Have disconnected, reconnected,
diabled, uninstalled, re-installed, etc. Any idea how to
get them back?

Look in Device Manager. Is there an error code there for the CD
drives? If so, is it code 31? If so, follow the link below to a MSKB
article on this problem...
