Cd-Rom Does not read cd

After I put any kind of cd (CDR, Data, Music) on the cd-
drive it sems to start to read it but it does not detect
any cd on the cd-drive. When I go to windows explorer,
and select the cd-rom , a message tells me to put a cd on
the drive, when it is already in there.
 
Get a can of air and clean out the inside of the cd drive. You could also
get cd lense cleaner.

I have just encountered the same problem with an AMD system running Windows XP Home.
Same issue with both the CR reader & a CD burner.
Is there an issue with the Windows Explorer refresh programming??

ps This is a new system so cleaning shouldn't be an issue. (Sorry Rich Barry.. no offense intended :-) )
