My cd-rom no longer work's, i can't find it anywhere on my computer, i was
told to download a driver, i went to the manufacturer of my cd-rom but it
said windows drivers would work, i think i may have accidently removed it i
need to know how to re-install my window's xp drivers so my cd-rom will work.

ok i tried that, when i downloaded it, it didn't seem to do anything, but the
file was added so i extracted the files which also didn't seem to do
anything, i restarted my computer that didn't do anything, then i tried to do
it manually, but when i went to regedit and clicked on what it said there was
no upper filter or lower filter listed. So what else should i try.

There is still NO CD drive icon in your My Computer window after running the
fix, is that right..?
Yes or No..
Can you see the drive in Device Manager or Disk Management..?
Yes or No..
How about in the BIOS..?
Yes or No..
If the answer is NO to all the above questions, it might be time to replace
the drive..

If an update for the CD-ROM drives firmware is available from the OEM it
might be worth a try flashing the drive, if not, just replace it with a newer
DVD/CD combo..
The Nero infotool can help to ID the original firmware #, if it can't see
the drive either, then replace the drive..

Good luck..

NO CD drive icon on my computer, went to device manager- in disk drives only
1 was listed which i think is my hard drive-ST310212A. below that was IDE
ATA/ATAPI controllers in ther was -intel(R) 82801AA bus master ide
controller, then -primary ide channel, then - secondary ide channel (which
has a yellow exclamation mark on it). So i went to SYSTEM INFORMATION,
SOFTWARE ENVIROMENT, SYSTEM DRIVERS and found NAME: cdrom, DESCRIPTION:
cd-rom driver, FILE: c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys, TYPE: kernel
driver, STARTED: no, START MODE: system, STATE: stopped, STATUS: ok, ERROR
CONTROL: normal, ACCEPT PAUSE: no, ACCEPT STOP: no. I don't know if this all
means anything or not. I also went to nero and tried downloading infotool.zip
but just got an error message.

Hi,

http://www.sysopt.com/tutorials/article.php/3552511
See about the Bios <above> and make sure your optical drive is showing and
set to auto detect, on the 2nd IDE channel <disk 0>, with the jumper on the
drive set to master..

Image of CM's DM..

The above is for reference, you should see the optical drive in DM..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553/EN-US/
See if the above can help..

Hope this doesn't post twice..
