CD ROM "device not found"

I'm trying to do an XP install (from NT) and I can't get
the CD ROM to accept the CD. I've tried changing the boot
sequence, booting from the 3.5" drive with the 6 disks to
boot to the CD and nothing has worked. Please help.

Have you confirmed that the CD drive even works?

Yes, it works, I can put in a CD and it will take off
like it's ready to roll and the computer never recognizes
it.
