CD rom causes reboot

Anytime a CD Rom, (program, game, audio, blank) is put in the drive the system
reboots as soon as the drive starts up. I have run multiple adware, spyware,
anti virus programs etc. without any luck. I even purchased and installed a
new drive and have the same problem. Therefore, I am guessing it is some type
of OS issue. I am a novice when it comes to programing or OS issues, so any
help would be greatly appriciated.

You must turn off automatic reboot. Help & Support has an article which
tells how to disable automatic reboot.
Then, when the system crashes, copy down all of the error message and post
it here.
It will be impossible to help you until we get the whole error message.

I'm guessing it's a driver issue. Try right-clicking on "My Computer" and
select Properties. Go to the Hardware tab and click the Hardware Manager
button. when the pane shows up are there any icons with red exclamation
marks, or yellow Warning triangles? If so, then double-clicking the device
in question will bring up the panel telling you what the problem is.

Thanks Poohbah, but no warnings in device manager. I checked for a driver
update and the "wizard" came back that my drivers are up to date. I will try
to obtain the error message and post it. Again, thanks for the suggestion.

No problem Jim. Have you peeked inside to see if a cable has been knocked
off or moved askew?

I had a problem once where the guy failed to tell me he had "banged" the
front of the computer with his char. Turned out he had knocked off two
cables and dislodged a memory chip. One never knows. Good luck

Yes, I looked inside. I installed a new drive and the troubleshooter and
everything indicates it is good. It appeares to function fine. I am not
having this problem with any other periphial or function. Printer, USB ports,
Firewire?video camera, etc. all work great.
Jim,
I disabled the auto reboot and it is still doing the same thing.

Very strange. I've run out of ideas.
