CD rom/ bad block

I used to be able to burn cd's using standard cd's, but now my cd rw drive
only recognizes cd rw's.I can't play any cd's. I checked the event log, and
saw that the cd rom has a bad block and a controller error on Ide/Ide port.
Can this be repaired and how?

CD drives have been known to go bad. Buy a new one.
