cd key

My computer recently crashed. I had to format my hard
drive. When I try to use Microsoft works it has me put in
my name, initials, organizqtion and cd key. I have no cd
key on my booklet. I tried to use the product key on the
back of my computer but that key doesn't work. Is there a
universal key I can use or what do I do? Thanks
