CD & DVD won't read

M

Michael

My computer stopped reading my CD & DVD drive. When I
insert a CD or DVD and try to RUN it from the start menu
I get the following message: Please insert a disk into
drive E:. It does not seem to see the cd. However, if I
uninstall the device in device manager and reboot, my
cd & dvd rom will work until I reboot again. The CDROM
is a TDK veloCD 48/16/48 Internal CD ReWriter. The DVD
is a noname. I am using Windows XP home. My motherboard
is an ASUS P4SDX. Finally, as far as I'm aware, the
drives have all the latest updates. This problem began
after performing a fresh install (not upgrade) of XP.

PS - I've read other posts on this subject and no one's
question seems to ever get answered. Questions are
asked, but then no final solution posted to their reply.

Hi Paula. I'm one of the other 'posts' with a cd/dvd problem, and I
must say that you are quite correct in your observation that no one's
problem ever seems to get solved. I think that maybe the so-called
experts that are here supposedly to answer questions don't know any more
than the rest of us. (Just a thought).

OK, this was absolutely no help at all, just like
everything else i've read on this newsgroup. I'm
beginning to agree with the others above. I've spent 3
hours here and am no closer to fixing my problem than when
I started.
