CD/DVD-RW problems

John

I have a CD-RW drive & a DVD-RW drive that have been
working fine for well over a year at this point.
Recently I installed the XP highMAT support for CD
writing from the Windows update site & it seems ever
since then the drives haven't been reading the CD/DVD's
properly. Sometimes they'll see the content on the disk,
other times they don't even see that a CD has been
inserted. I've uninstalled the update, but I'm still
having the problems. Anybody else run into this at all?
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I have had the same basic problem as that described
below. And i have tried in vain to update drivers etc..
Nothing has worked. I had Windows ME installed and
upgraded to XP home edition. From the time i did this my
DVD Drive does not recognise any DVD discs. When checking
the properties of the drive it appears to know its a DVD
drive and it claims its working properly. I am assuming
that i need a specific driver to allow the drive to work
but i dont know what it is. My DVD drive is a
MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8585F
Can anybody suggest a solution to this problem....please?
