CD-DVD R-W not burning DVDs

I have a Sony PCG-FRV28 with a CD-ROM/DVD RW that has a mind of it own...
The problem started after my Laptop got infected with a spy software. The CD
driver only played audio CDs. I did a disc recover and I was able to play
DVDs CD ROM and audio CDs, but could not burn anything in any format. I
desided to check for any up-grades from Sony and downloaded an up-grade
driver. After the up-grade, I was able to burn audio CDs, data CDs, and
watch DVDs, but I cannot not DVDs as I was able to do when I bought this
laptop. By the way, the drive I have is a Matshita UJ-810.

I appreciate any help you can give me.
 
Service companies sometimes are of help.
The best thing is to move your drive to another PC and try.

Also sometimes viruses make XP re-installation absolutely necessary, you
know. :-(
