whenever I insert a cd/dvd, the system starts to reboot. I tried changing the
cd/dvd drive, but still stuck with the same problem.
will some expert on windows xp please give me a solution.

I don't claim to be an expert on Windows XP, but...

There could be several causes for the rebooting. The first thing we need
to know is: does this happen with every CD or DVD or just some?
Commercially made or home made?

The reason I ask is to try to narrow down the possibilities. If you
reboot with every CD and DVD, always, commercial and home made, you've
probably got a power supply that needs to be replaced.

One way to check: After the computer reboots, presumably with the disc
still in the drive, can you read the disk without a problem? If you
can't, and you reboot again, it's almost certainly the power supply. If
you /can/ read the disc, it's probably something else.

Thank You Leonard You could be right, it reboots again, and it happens with
the best of qulaity cd/dvd. I shall confirm if this works

Thanks again

Please let us know. You will be helping someone else in the same situation.

Thanks again your solution did work. After replacing the power supply unit
all problems went away.
