cd/dvd drive won't open documents on rewritable cds

I don't know what's going on with my computer! I have important documents off
of adobe pagemaker 7.0 that I saved on a cd-rom at my school, and I need to
work on it at home but my computer shows that nothing has been saved onto my
rewritable cd. I just downloaded adobe pagemaker and it is working fine, so I
figured that I wouldn't have any problem opening my saved documents off of
my cd. However, my computer keeps showing me that nothing is saved on the cd,
and that is a lie. It opens perfectly at my school and I'm able to work on my
saved documents. It gives the same message everytime I put in any rewritable
cd with programs saved on it. Does anybody know if there is a way to somehow
format the cd without erasing all of my saved documents already on the cd? I
am so confused and would appreciate any help or information, hopefully
someone can understand what I am trying to say.

do not reformat - you are another example of what I believe to be a growing
problem - datat on CD's adn DVD's won't be recognized as existing - XP shows
an empty disk - It started first on one of my systems but now is happening on
both. I'm afraid of a virus, but am running Norton 2005, Ad-aware and have
both current...

Hi Incorporeal,

How did you write the disk at school. If you did a drag-n-drop with
a program like InCD, then you need to have the same program on any
machine you want to be able to read the disk.

I know it is an extra step, but I always tell people to burn CDs
using the Joliet format from within the burning program. By doing
that you create a disk that can be read on any machine.
