Hi everyone, I have a acer desktop computer... all good specs of cpu, ram etc
but the cd / dvd drive will not play music cds without the sound being jumpy,
also games sometimes do not load, dvds do not play etc. I have changed the
drive with a new one and the problem still exists... so i changed the ide
ribbon cable and used a different port on the mobo. still no good... the
problem is getting gradually worse. I have also updated the drivers and
installed a new copy of windows media player 11 to rule out corrupted
software. what can this be?? everything is swaped out??? thanks, matt320

Hi Matt

Is the drive using DMA transfer or PIO? You can check in Device Manager.
Click on IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, then the IDE Channel (primary or
secondary) the CD drive uses. Choose Properties, then the Advanced tab.
