I tried to upgrade my system from Windows 98 to XP professional.
Everything went smoothy except that under xp my internal combo drive
does not work. XP recognizes the drive and I can get a directory listing
of any cd or dvd; however, when I actually try to access any data file on
the cd (or dvd) I get various error messsages (depending on the file type).
If it's an audio file nothing happens, if it is a video dvd it complains of
being unable to read the file, if it is an executable it says it is
not a win32 file.
The drive is a I/OMagic 52x24x52/16x Internal cd-rw & DVD-Rom Combo Drive.
It did not come with any drivers, it is just a standard IDE device and
xp recognizes it as such.
The drives works absolutely flawless in allmodes under Windows 98.

Help!

The problem is most likely not the driver but in the controller. Try change
the IDE ATA/ATAPI-controller from DMA to PIO. That should do the trick.
