I have a Toshiba Satellite that came with a Matshita (pioneer) dvd-ram
player/burner. It has been working great till recently. It will play all
types (cds and dvds) but it will not burn anything in any program (windvd,
real player, windows media player and several more) it says "no rewritable
drive detected. help please..going crazy here...thanks

You need a burning app, don't see one in your list..?
Whats the actual drive string for the optical drive..?

Unless you have a program such as Easy CD Creator or Nero, you are out of
luck. WinXP cannot burn to a DVD device of any kind.

Yup, I agree with you, and Jim.. Without a burning app it won't crank on all
8's or 6's or 4's or even a 2 stroke for that matter, ha...

That is the kind of program that I meant...
I am not certain what the significance of "no rewriteable drive" is as a
DVD-RAM isn't rewriteble (AFIK).
My inclination is that you have a hardware issue with the drive. Don't
mention that XP says that the drive is working properly. All that means is
that the electronics in the drive and in the computer can communicate. The
drive hardware may still be bad even after receiving such a message.
What does the manufacturer's diagsnostics say about the drive?
Jim
