CD Drives not recognised

My CD drives cannot be recognised by My Computer.

Running XP Pro SP1. Liteon CD/rw and Iomega Dual DVD.
Both were working fine until yesterday. Now they are ?marked out in device
manager.
Uninstall does not rectify the problem, neither does pfysically
disconnecting either/both.
Installing a new CD/RW drive does not work either.
Drives work on boot up, ie booting XP from CD on startup.
When update drivers from device manager is used the responce is driver ok
but cannot find drive code 41
Any ideas
