When I try to copy pictures or a document to a cd, I get a window that comes
up that says my documents, and in that window it reads, D:\ is not accessible
function. So I took the blank cd out of the drive and tried to copy with an
empty cd drive, when I tried to copy a pic/doc, a window came on and said to
insert a blank cd. I also remember at one point when I opened my pictures
there was a option in one of the task category's there was an option to copy
to cd, but now there is none. Now what I do is highlight the file/pic then I
click copy this file and click on the d drive that is listed. Any ideas what
I can try to fix this problem?

What are you using to prepare the disks for writing and to write to
them? Are you formatting the CDs first?

Twanye, Thank's for the response, I dont format or anything else. What I
do,and have always done before this problem started was to pick a picture
that I want copied than I would select the burn this picture to a cd, but
that option on the tasks window is not there anymore, so I use the copy this
file option in the tasks window ,then a list comes up and I select the d
drive option, and that's when the window that says D:\ is not accessible
incorrect function.

You don't say how you are trying to transfer your files to the CD, but from
your description, it sounds as though you are attempting to use XP's own
native CD writing utility.

First, open 'My Computer' and right click on the CD burner and select
'Properties' Ensure that recording is enabled on this drive.

It should be possible to open the blank disk (and it should show an empty
disk). Drag some files onto the empty disk and drop them there. The files
will appear with a vertical arrow symbol at the bottom. Clicking on 'Burn
Files to Disk' on the left side of the frame will then actually burn the
files to the disk (the arrow eventually disappears).

Try this:

use windows explorer, cruise to the cd burner, right click and open
properties, then go to recording tab and ensure the enable cdburning box is
checked. if not check it and say ok. try to burn a cd.

mi, have no idea what you are talking about, I go to my pictures or my
documents, click on a file and use either copy this to a cd or copy this
file, then go to cd drive, does not work. What you described can not be done

on my xp os. Thank's for you help.

Then I would have to say that either something is wrong with your XP or you
misunderstood my post. You cannot use XP's to copy files to a CD unless
recording is enabled for that specific CD writer.

Mi, there is no recording tab on the drive window, if that is what you are
saying. I was able to record to the cd-rw drive in the past, so I guess at
one point, recording is enabled for that specific CD writer.
Thank's for the help, and if you know how I can try to enable it again, that
advice would be appreciated.

Bob, thanks no record tab, I think that is the problem os doesnt reconize the
drive, I can copy to the cd with roxio. How do I get tihe drive to have the
record tab?

Sounds as if you're trying to use a blank CD like it was a floppy
drive or another disk drive.

To do that you will need inCD installed and running.

Since you have installed it just use Roxio, the "record tab" likely went
away because of the Roxio installation.

Bob, I have had roxio installed for six years, and was able to copy files

Hang on a mo! Which version of Roxio are you using? I ask because earlier
versions were not compatible with XP's inbuilt CD writing utility.

If your Roxio has the 'Direct CD' packet writing utility, then it is not
compatible. Roxio substituted 'Drag-to-disc' which is.

I can't guess what you may have done if Roxio no longer works. Perhaps
you may reinstall it then.
