cd drive wont read

Basically my cd drive wont work,it opens closes but it wont read any cds ...I've checked it through control panel ,system etc and it says its working.. Ive tried reinstalling the driver,system restore and Ive checked the leads in my tower every things ok....HELP!!! any suggestions would be very much appreciated :)
 
Callum, rt click MyComputer>Select Prop>Hardware>Device Manage>Dvd/Cdrom
Drives. Double Click on yours and choose Uninstall. Restart and let XP
reinstall it.
