CD drive problems

I want to back some files and photos up to a CD. I have a CDRW drive that is
installed correctly. Using Win.XP Home with all available updates including
SP2.

the cd says to put a disk in the cd drive ....... but of course, I have a
blank on in the drive. What do I need to do? I must be missing something
that needs to be installed. Thanks for your help

Maybe you need to format the CD

I thought about that, but haven't been able to find out how to do it in the
help sections. Can you point me in the right direction???
