cd drive not playing dics or recording

please can any one out their help me ,my cd drive will not play cd`s and i
cant do any recordings ,dvd play ok,any ideas anyone .

Does your BIOS and Windows recognize the CD drive and if so can you at least
see the files on a CD when you use Windows Explorer?

If you are talking about a combo cdrw/dvdrom and you can play dvds on it but
not cds and can not record cds with it than try cleaning it. If that doesn't
work than the laser is shot and it's time to buy a new burner.
