CD Drive door will NOT open

I cannot open the CD drive door. When I press the button nothing happens. The DVD drive works perfectly and the status of the drive on the computer is good. The green light is on continuously too if that helps.

Can you open the door manually without harming the exterior of the door and the drive itself?

Please help ASAP

Thanks

Roger

There is normally a small hole in the front of the drive where a thin tool
(like a paper clip) can be inserted to open the draw.

There is usually a small pinole on the CD drive door ,
somewhere next to the eject button. If you insert a
straightened paper clip, the latch will disengage so that
you can manually pull open the door. This is obviously
just an emergency feature, you shouldn't have to always
do this.

Have you tried using the "eject" on the drive right click
menu?

Do you have a CD-RW drive with packet writing software? It
can "think" that the disks is being used by the software and
keeps the drive closed until the disk is written to.

I have this problem when I use CD-RW in DirectCD mode. I think Jim is right. It happens cause I close the window that was first opened by autoplay. Once that window is closed XP is lame at ejecting the DirectCD. Sticking a a paper clip in the hole every time is a sorry answer. If I wrote software like that at GD I'd be fired. 98 Se did not have this problem !
